When an eBay Listing fails to publish or your eBay connection breaks, here's how to diagnose and fix the issue.
Authentication Expired
Symptom: Your eBay account needs attention in Marketplaces, and Listings fail to publish.
Fix:
- Open Marketplaces in the sidebar, or go to
/settings/marketplaces - Find the affected eBay account
- Select Reconnect
- Complete eBay's authorization flow again
- Return to ListForge and confirm that the account is connected
Your existing Items, Listings, and data are preserved. Reconnecting only renews ListForge's authorization to work with eBay.
eBay authorization expires periodically. When ListForge asks you to reconnect, authorize the account again.
Listing Publish Failed
Symptom: You clicked Publish but the Listing shows "Error" status instead of "Listed."
Common causes and fixes:
Missing Required Fields
eBay requires certain fields that aren't filled in. Check the error detail — it will tell you exactly which field is missing. Common culprits:
- Condition — must be set for most categories
- Item Specifics — some categories require specific attributes like Brand, MPN, Color
Invalid Category
The eBay category assigned to the Listing may be invalid or unavailable for that item. Choose a valid eBay category, review any category-specific requirements, and retry publishing.
Image Issues
eBay has image requirements, including minimum size and content rules. Review the error details and replace any image that eBay rejected.
Listing Shows "Ended" Unexpectedly
Possible causes:
- eBay ended it for a policy violation — check Seller Hub for notices
- The listing duration expired (eBay fixed-duration listings)
- A sync update detected that the Listing was removed on eBay
Fix: Check the Listing in eBay Seller Hub. If there is no unresolved policy issue, return to ListForge and publish again.
Sync Not Updating
Symptom: An item sold on eBay but ListForge still shows it as "Listed."
Fix:
- eBay syncs run periodically, not instantly. Wait 15–30 minutes.
- You can trigger a manual sync from the item's detail page
- If sync consistently fails, reconnect the eBay account from Marketplaces
General Troubleshooting Steps
- Check the eBay connection — open Marketplaces and confirm the account is connected
- Read the error detail — ListForge shows the message returned for the failed eBay action
- Check eBay directly — open Seller Hub and look for account, policy, or Listing notices
- Reconnect if authorization expired — renew the eBay connection when prompted
- Retry after fixing the issue — once the missing field, category, image, policy, or connection problem is resolved, publish again
Most publishing errors come from eBay requirements that still need attention. Read the specific error first; it usually identifies the field or account issue to fix.
